Overview The Addinell Hewson photographs of surgery patients is a small collection of seven photographs, dating between 1861 and 1865, and including tumors, fractures, and amputations.Addinell Hewson was born in 1828 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in 1850. Scope and Contents This collection contains over 350 photographs of surgical techniques, practices, and cases which require surgery; orthopedic surgery patients; skiagraphs of fractured bones; and other related images. The majority of the images can be found in Ashhurst's Surgery; its principles and practice, for students and practitioners (1914).

Scope and Contents The provenance of this collection is unknown. This collection consists of over 2,100 portraits of doctors (possibly all dermatologists). The collection is likely part of the materials donated by the American Academy of Dermatology during the 1970s.

Scope and Contents Since photography was invented in the mid-19th century, it has been used for medical purposes. The collection contains more than 4,000 photographs and showcases a variety of patients with diseases, injuries, and malformations, such as Civil War amputations, conjoined twins, and birth defects.

Scope and Contents This collection of x-rays was discovered in the Mütter Museum storage area and inventoried in 2006. It was transferred to the Library on September 22, 2016.All of the x-rays seem to be of specimens found in the Mütter Museum, including the Soap Lady, and fetuses with defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly. No provenance information could be found; however, many of the envelopes note that the x-rays were taken by Dr. Gerald Conlogue in 1991. It is likely that all...

Scope and Contents This collection consists of photographs, negatives, pencil drawings, and other images related to Dr. Oscar Batson's work. It was donated to the Mütter Museum by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Batson, along with numerous medical instruments and pathological specimens. The collection of photographs was transferred to the Library on September 22, 2016.
