Overview The Daniel Joseph McCarthy Papers document portions of McCarthy’s medical career, particularly his writings and addresses on psychiatry and medical jurisprudence. As a prominent neurologist and medical jurisprudence expert, McCarthy treated wounded soldiers in the First World War, taught for thirty-five years at the University of Pennsylvania, and founded several research and benevolent medical foundations. Scope and Contents This small collection, 1885-1935, documents Jesse Elmer Shuman's medical education at the University of Pennsylvania and the Medical Institute of Philadelphia and includes matriculation and lecture admission tickets, lecture schedules, examination questions, and a recipe book. Also included are some newsclippings, a volume of notes used from 1912-1931, for lectures on materia medica, and an undated typescript address on angina pectoris.

Scope and Contents The Leidy family papers consist of two discrete collections, including lecture and admission cards, correspondence, and newsclippings. The first collection of Leidy family material, MSS 2/155-01, contains lecture admission cards and related material, 1830-1866, from the medical educations of Napoleon B. Leidy and Philip Leidy at the University of Pennsylvania and the pharmaceutical education of Thomas Leidy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. The series includes several cards...
