Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection of reports and related items, 1834-1839,
preserved by the Office of the Secretary of the College of
Physicians of Philadelphia, documents the College's position
on public health issues in Philadelphia, particularly the
prevention of disease by draining or filling stagnant ponds
and promoting public squares and tree-lined walkways. There
are also several items concerning water pollution in the
Schuylkill River. The collection includes two reports of
the College's Committee on Public Hygiene; several items are
in the hand of John Bell or Joseph Parrish.
