Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection of correspondence of Dwight B. McNair Scott,
Program Chairman of the Section on Basic Sciences of the
College of Physicians of Philadelphia, spanning 1976 to
1984, pertains to the formation of the section in 1977 and
the organization of seminars and lectures held in 1977 and
1978, during Scott's tenure as program chairman. Also
included is some material from 1979 and 1980, when she was
chairman of the section. Included in the correspondence
files are programs, annual reports, and miscellaneous
material.
The early correspondence in this collection pertains to the formation of the Section on Basic Sciences; included are lists of Fellows who were asked to participate in the section, as well as a final list of sponsors. Correspondents include John P, Hubbard, President of the College of Physicians, and Earle H. Spaulding, Chairman of the Section on Basic Sciences from 1977 to 1979. As Program Chairman, Scott also corresponded with lecturers and with potential sponsors of the section.
In addition to correspondence, the collection contains drafts of programs and the section's Annual Reports from 1979 and 1980. Also present is material relating to the section's November 1980 seminar on "The Kidney: Basic Science and Clinical Practice". Included is Robert Narins' lecture outline and Michael Weiner's curriculum vitae; Narins and Weiner were lecturers at this seminar. Also present is a short summary of the discoveries of insulin, penicillin, and DNA; this summary, dating from around 1984, might pertain to a later seminar or lecture.
