Biographical / Historical

The Pathological Society of Philadelphia was formed by W. W. Gerhard in Philadelphia in 1838 or 1839. Its objects were to exhibit specimens of morbid anatomy and preserve those specimens in a cabinet or museum. The society was discontinued circa 1843. The officers of the Pathological Society of Philadelphia included a president, one or two vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer, and one or more curators. The members were either resident, corresponding, or associate.
