Biographical / Historical
Frederick William Sunderman (1898-2003) was a doctor of internal medicine whose work and accomplishments included developing methods for testing blood sugar and organs in the endocrine system, diabetes treatment, monitoring the health of people working on the Manhattan Project during World War II, and being recognized as America's oldest worker. After contracting pulmonary tuberculosis in 1938, Sunderman played violin and became interested in photography. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine in 1923. He was a Fellow at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia from 1930 until his death in 2003, and served as Secretary of the College from 1946-1948.
