Biographical / Historical
Dr. John Stockton Hough (1845-1900) received his M.D. from the Medical College of the University of Pennsylvania in 1868 and was a resident physician at Old Blockley from 1868-1869. After his death in 1900, his large collection of books was purchased by the College through substantial donations.
Dr. Samuel Lewis (1813-1890) attended lectures at the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1834-1835 before continuing his medical studies at the University of Edinburgh, where he received his M.D. in 1840. In 1864, after the College moved into its building at 13th and Locust, Dr. Lewis donated his personal library of 2,500 books to the College library.
