Travel diary and other writings [anonymous]

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 2/178

Scope and Contents

This small collection contains the holograph diary of the physician from his 1910-1911 voyage to Arabia, India, and Africa, as well as the itinerary from his 1929 voyage to Sweden and Poland, and a few poems.

The 1910-1911 diary contains the physician's account of his experiences and sights on his journey from Philadelphia, across the Atlantic and Mediterranean to Egypt, around Arabia and through the Persian Gulf to India, around the coast of Africa, and back across the Atlantic. Although the diary is primarily concerned with tourist sights and historical information, there are occasional medical observations, accounts of African hunting expeditions, and remarks concerning religious missions. Also included with the diary is a list of photographs taken and a typescript excerpt from the diary concerning the Taj Mahal.
