[Silas Weir Mitchell] typescript on François Villon

Scope and Contents Typescript address before unknown audience with contemporary and later holograph emendations, attributed to S. Weir Mitchell, circa 1897. Mitchell describes life of poet François Villon. Includes remarks on Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac.

Sir James Paget correspondence

Scope and Contents This is a small collection of holograph letters of English surgeon, Sir James Paget, to a variety of correspondents, 1846-1894. The letters were probably preserved for their autograph value. Most items are responses to invitations or acknowledgements of reprints. Several items are addressed to John B. Roberts. Of note is a lengthy discussion of a case, 1869 August 25. Also included are signature cuttings, a holograph recipe, and two letters, 1887 and 1922, of Paget's son, Stephen Paget.

Scope and Contents Letter, 2 July 1885, concerns dissension over arrangements for projected ninth International Medical Congress to be held in Washington, D.C., in 1887. Paget discusses arrangements of previous congresses. Includes cover letter.

Sir William Osler and Lady Osler letters (unprocessed)

Scope and Contents note This collection consists of six letters to Sir William and Lady Osler, written in 1917. The letters are from Major Vivian A. Batchelor, Dr. Harvey Cushing, and Dr. G.E. Brewer, and others. They letters mainly discuss the circumstances of the death of the Osler's son, who was killed in Belgium during World War I. One letter is manuscript and the others are typed transcripts.

The time span covered by the collection includes Osler's years in Philadelphia (18841889), at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland (1889-1904), and as Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, England (1905-1919). Scope and Contents The collection consists of four diaries, 1858-1901 (Bulk 1858-1865 & 1888), kept by Sophia E. Perry, a resident of Gorham, Me. Items found interleaved in the diaries were removed and placed in folders. The diaries document Ms. Perry’s personal life. Ms. Perry kept the first through third diaries while living in Gorham.
