Overview Washington Lemuel Atlee was born in Lancaster, PA, on February 22, 1808. He began studying medicine under his eldest brother, Dr. John Light Atlee, at the age of 15. By 1826, when Atlee started his formal medical education at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, he had already attended over 40 obstetrics cases. William Brower account book

Scope and Contents The collection consists of an account book, 1872-1883, kept by physician William Brower, 1842-1919. Accounts are recorded under the names of individuals, and the volume has a name index. Entries under each account list the services rendered and their cost, who received the service, and any payments made. The bulk of entries list only visit as the service, but more description, such as vaccination, is occasionally provided.

Slides depict objects and illustrations related to the history of medicine, and include portraits and caricatures, medical conditions and treatments, buildings and shops, and instruments and prostheses. Slides were used by Dr. Leaman to illustrate his lectures on medical history given at the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
