William L. Challiss lecture and matriculation tickets

Scope and Contents This small collection documents the medical education of William L. Challiss at Jefferson Medical College, 1847-1848. The collection contains one matriculation card for the 18481849 academic session and admission cards to the lectures of Franklin Bache, Robley Dunglison, Robert M. Huston, Charles D. Meigs, John K. Mitchell, Thomas D. Mutter, and Joseph Pancoast. There is also one card admitting Challiss to lectures at the Philadelphia School of Anatomy in 1847.

Scope and Contents Two volumes of business records, 1875-1876 and 1885-1886, of William L. Du Bois, Catskill, N.Y., pharmaceutical firm. Volumes contain orders and prescriptions assigned sequential number in roughly chronological order, nos. 19200-20404 and nos. 37131-39187. Prescriptions for individuals are authorized by physician and include patient’s name and dosage directions; two Catskill physicians whose prescriptions occur frequently are Nelson Fanning and Charles E. William M. Coffin papers

Scope and Contents The collection contains letters, claim forms, affidavits, memoranda, and other documents, 1880-1911, concerning William M. Coffin's military pension and medical disabilities from his service in the Civil War. The papers describe Coffin's state of health and war related disabilities as well as his experiences with medical care and treatments during and after the war. Coffin suffered from typhoid fever, gunshot wounds, hemorrhoids, chronic diarrhea, and rheumatism.

The course was put out by 20th Century Health Institute, Inc., with lessons prepared by John X. Loughran, Ph.D. There are two volumes with a total of 52 lessons. William Osler patient records from the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania

Scope and Contents Clinical records of patients under care of William Osler in wards MM and WM at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, 1887-1889. In addition to Osler’s notes, patient records contain notes by James Tyson (Osler’s successor in professorship of clinical medicine at the University) and two resident physicians, Joseph Leidy and L. L. Mial. Several examples of cases of Bright’s disease, dyspepsia, tuberculosis, rheumatism, and typhoid fever.
