Overview
Originally called the Library Advisory Committee, the Wood Institute, Library, and Museum (WILM) Committee was first established in 1998, as a result of the recommendations of the earlier Library Task Force. The purpose of the WILM Committee was “to oversee implementation of adopted recommendations and report through standing committees to the Council.” WILM held its first meeting on February 12, 1998.
In May of 2001, the Committee voted to officially combine the Francis C. Wood Institute for the History of Medicine (Wood Institute) Committee and the Library Advisory Committee into the WILM Committee. This was due to several reasons: the Director of the Library, Ed Morman, was also the Director of the Wood Institute; better strategic planning regarding the Library; and a need for an overarching, College-wide collection development policy.
As of 2019, the WILM Committee is still an active committee, usually meeting twice a year. The Committee discusses topics such as large, ongoing projects in the Library and Museum, including grants; activities of the Mütter Research Institute; major donations to the collections; Fellows engagement; and exhibits planning.
The Records of the Wood Institute, Library, and Museum (WILM) Committee document its establishment in 1998 and house the minutes and correspondence for the subsequent years from 1999 to 2006.
