M. DaCosta on clinical medicine; Samuel D. Gross on surgery; John B. Biddle on materia medica; and
Ellerslie Wallace on obstetrics. Also includes treatments and prescriptions. Notebook also contains
Diller’s financial records including ledger, 1868-1870,
and summary monthly cash accounts, 1869-1885.
Recipes and undated letter from W. B. Erdman concerning rectal suppository included.

Biographical / Historical
John R. Diller, Pennsylvania physician, was born circa 1837. He received his M.D. from Jefferson
Medical College in 1868 and then opened a private practice in Emmaus, Pa. Diller died from injuries
resulting from a kick by a horse on 29 Sept. 1902 at Emmaus.
