Overview This collection contains two volumes of lectures notes of Charles Michael, a medical student at the Washington University of Baltimore, dating from 1829 to 1831. One volume covers notes from a course on midwifery taught by a Dr. Handy. The other volume contains notes from the theory and practice of medicine by J.H. Miller, M.D. Not much is known about Charles Michael. This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015

Mercer describes cases presented at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania during the clinical instruction of Francis X. Dercum, William Osler, William Pepper, and Horatio C. Wood.
