Scope and Contents

Student notes on materia medica taken by J. Arman at the Université de Montpellier, France, 1748. Notes are divided into internal and three classes of external remedies. Internal remedies covered are: cathartics, purgatives, diaphoretics and sudorifics, diuretics, aperitives, emmenagogues, cardiacs, stomachics, cephalics, febrifuges, carminatives, anticlementics, lithontriptics, salivants, bechics, astringents, absorbants, narcotics, and laxatives. Divisions of first class of external remedies are: repercussives, external astringents, resolutives, anodynes, corrosives, and vesicants. Divisions of second class are: suppuratives, detersives, incarnatives, and cicatrisants. Divisions of third class are: exfoliants, medicaments against burns, and mineral waters.
