Astley Paston Cooper Ashhurst photograph collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains over 350 photographs of surgical techniques, practices, and cases which require surgery; orthopedic surgery patients; skiagraphs of fractured bones; and other related images. The majority of the images can be found in Ashhurst's Surgery; its principles and practice, for students and practitioners (1914).

Benham family papers

Booksellers' description Account book collection, Thomas Benham, M.D., John Benham, M.D., and others. (Broome, Conesville, and Windham, NY; 1796-1863, and later) Comprises approximately twenty single thick wrappered account books (some bound with multiple gatherings) and several hundred items of miscellaneous paper ephemera, primarily 1840s-1870s, of related interest. Apparently representing three generations of doctors in one family, serving a very rural area of New York State, some 35 miles southwest of Albany.

Benjamin Archer notes on the lectures of Benjamin Rush

Scope and Contents Two volumes of an incomplete set of notes on lectures delivered by Benjamin Rush at the University of Pennsylvania from 1804 to 1805. Vol. 1 (p. 1-43) contains brief notes on his section on physiology including the pulse and the mind. Vol. 2 (p. 132-260) contains notes on his sections on therapeutics and the practice of medicine.

Benjamin Bird notes on lectures from the University of Maryland School of Medicine

Benjamin Coates cashbook and ledger

Scope and Contents Two volumes documenting B. H. Coates’ financial situation and medical practice in Philadelphia, 18421853. Cash book contains a chronological account of Coates’ expenses and receipts, 19 July 18456 June 1853; several accounts carried over from the ledger of practice. Ledger of practice, 18421846, organized alphabetically by name of patient or account, includes notes on procedures performed, identification and address of patients, and settlement of accounts. Benjamin Coles commonplace book

Contains 171 entries including definitions, medical recipes, and prescriptions for ailments, diseases, and pregnancy. Occasional entries concern matters of materia medica or natural history.

Benjamin Dickstein case records (unprocessed)

Scope and Contents note This is a collection of patient case files of Dr. Benjamin Dickstein. Files include a summary card with information on the patient, a data chart of pre- and post-operative lab results, and correspondence requesting to post-operative followup information from patients and physicians. Benjamin Rush letter to Mr. Mulford

Scope and Contents The collection consists of an autographed letter signed, 14 Oct. 1808, from physician Benjamin Rush, 1746-1813, to a Mr. Mulford. The letter is a prescription sent or given to Mr. Mulford, who was suffering from an ailment affecting his lungs. The letter lists guidelines to follow regarding nutrition, exercise, dress, and sleep. It also recommends bloodletting and blistering in the event of chest pain or heavy coughing.
