William M. Coffin papers

Scope and Contents The collection contains letters, claim forms, affidavits, memoranda, and other documents, 1880-1911, concerning William M. Coffin's military pension and medical disabilities from his service in the Civil War. The papers describe Coffin's state of health and war related disabilities as well as his experiences with medical care and treatments during and after the war. Coffin suffered from typhoid fever, gunshot wounds, hemorrhoids, chronic diarrhea, and rheumatism.

Scope and Contents note The collection contains information on a correspondence course in personal health taken by McCall. The course was put out by 20th Century Health Institute, Inc., with lessons prepared by John X. Loughran, Ph.D. There are two volumes with a total of 52 lessons. Topics include colds, sleep, diet, complexion, hygiene, foot health, ulcers, and cancer.

William Melville Hart scrapbook on George E. Holtzapple

Scope and Contents Commemorative scrapbook presented to George Holatzapple on May 22, 1936, at his seventy-fourth birthday party. Contains correspondence, a radio broadcast script, and newspclippings, to commemorate the eariliset administration of oxygen in the treatment of pneumonia, which was performed by Holtzapple in 1885.

Series 1 contains manuscripts and typescripts of Bradley's radio broadcasts( 1923-1942); most of these broadcasts concern matters of child health and hygiene. William Osler patient records from the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania

Scope and Contents Clinical records of patients under care of William Osler in wards MM and WM at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, 1887-1889. In addition to Osler’s notes, patient records contain notes by James Tyson (Osler’s successor in professorship of clinical medicine at the University) and two resident physicians, Joseph Leidy and L. L. Mial. Several examples of cases of Bright’s disease, dyspepsia, tuberculosis, rheumatism, and typhoid fever.
